Introduction
I have always enjoyed reading the small presses, the relatively unknown talent willing to take risks and to hell with the rest of it. Their vision, ideas and stories are the important things. They don't have to answer to an editor or big New York publishers with the big bucks. They write stories because that's what they do. There isn't much financial reward in it. But there is plenty of gratification, sense of accomplishment and community in it. I don't know if the authors selected here know each other or are even familiar with one another's work. But they all have one thing in common: their stories are unique enough to be interesting and their writing engaging enough to be worth buying. Although in most magazines and anthologies there are only a story or two that stand out above the rest, perhaps those same stories posted at AnthologyBuilder.com will continue to stand out to readers and continue to enter the consciousness of readers for far longer than the lifespan of their original publication. Herein are stories that I find quirky, interesting, likely worth reading. Whether it's about alien invaders, mindreading, death, or any other far-fetched theme, these stories pinch and twist the theme a little bit taughter. I hope you enjoy my selections as much as I have enjoyed them. ~ Mike Swope
